Qualifications
Educational Requirement:
Must be a high school graduate.
Experience:
Have experience working with young children in a preschool setting.
A Substitute Teacher must be physically able to lift young children who need assistance. A negative TB test is required and must have and a valid fingerprint clearance card.
Job Description: The SubstituteTeacher assists in implementing a program of developmentally appropriate activities under the direct supervision of a Lead Teacher with whom s/he is assigned to work.
Specific duties are indicated below:
1. Maintain prompt hours preferably arriving about five minutes early. Notify the Director and your supervising Lead Teacher in event of illness. 2. Maintain a neat and clean appearance. 3. Work with all other staff members in a cooperative manner. Communicate regularly with your supervising teacher and the Director. Be open to constructive feedback and ideas. 4. Be friendly, courteous, and open with parents. Refer parental concerns to the supervising teacher or Director when necessary. 5. Assist in supervising all activities to ensure the safety of each child at all times. 6. Assist the assigned teacher in implementing a variety of developmentally appropriate activities to promote the child's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
7. Assist in the arrangement and upkeep of classrooms, classroom equipment and materials as requested by the supervising teacher and/or Director. 8. Assist in the development of classroom materials to be used by the children in conjunction with the planned activities.
9. Use discipline techniques which provide for positive guidance, redirection, and the setting of clear-cut limits. All techniques shall be designed to help the child develop self-control, positive self-esteem and respect for the rights of others. 10. Report problems with children, parents, room management or materials to the Director, if necessary.
11. Initial Orientation: You will be oriented to the Policies and Procedures of the school within five working days of your employment
12.Attendance at school events such as field trips, musicals, fall festivals, pancake breakfast are required. 13. Follow the policies and procedures of the school as designated in the Employee Handbook.
School Hours & Calendar: The school is open Monday through Thursday 8:00 am to 4:00pm. The Preschool calendar is divided into an academic year program and a summer program. The school is closed Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Week (fall break), two weeks at the end of December (winter break), Martin Luther King Jr. day. President’s Day, One week in March (spring break), Memorial Day, and Independence Day.
