POSITION TITLE:    Self-Contained Special Education Paraprofessional - Level C

FLSA:                    Non Exempt 

REPORTS TO:         Special Education Director

 

JOB SUMMARY:  

 

A self-contained special education paraprofessional, under general supervision, provides assistance to a self-contained special education teacher, performing a variety of tasks relating to the physical and instructional needs of students in a classroom setting; assists in the implementation of instructional programs, including self-help and behavior management as well as instruction. The special education paraprofessional performs related duties as required or assigned. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

    • Must have an high school diploma or equivalent 
    • Must possess Paraprofessional Certificate**
    • Must be able to obtain/must have current AZ IVP Fingerprint Card.
    • Preferred Minimum of one year of experience and/or training in a self-contained setting supporting individuals with a variety of disabilities.
    • Works collaboratively as part of a team and displays ability to be flexible and adapt to changes in the work environment.
    • Demonstrates strong work ethic to achieve program goals.
    • Possesses the ability to utilize technology to access and use a variety of software programs and/of applications.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Meets needs of all students with disabilities on their campus under the direction of school administration and special education teams.
  • Assists in teaching and modeling workplace skills and positive behaviors.
  • Assists in data collection related to IEP goals.
  • Leads individual and small group activities with students under teacher direction.
  • Escorts students to and from classes, activities, and transportation buses as needed.
  • Prepares instructional materials and copies. Prepares and distributes learning materials according to teacher direction. 
  • Attend professional development opportunities.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assist in the preparation of federal, state and local reports on special education.
  • Maintains culturally responsive practices with scholars, parents, and professionals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
  • May be required to lift and carry heavy, bulky supplies and materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • May be required to lift scholars and/or assist scholars with daily activities.
